Josiah Patterson was born 1837 Apr. 14 to Malcolm and Mary Deloach Patterson in Morgan Co., Ala. He attended field schools and was admitted to the bar in 1859. That same year he married Josephine Rice. He practiced law in Morgan Co., until 1861, when he enlisted in the CSA as a first lieutenant in the 1st Ala. Cavalry. He was promoted to colonel of the 5th Ala. Infantry before the end of that conflict. In 1865 he resumed the practice of law in Morgan Co., but moved to Tenn. in 1872,...
